Deli & Takeaway

Our deli is crammed full of all the usual suspects: freshly baked artisan breads, homemade cakes & savouries, olives, cheeses & charcuterie, and a well edited collection of the best Yorkshire chutneys, jams, chocolates, biscuits, cakes and tea & coffee.

On our shelves you’ll discover a carefully selected range of products from some of Yorkshire’s best artisan producers. We work very hard to source new products from our county and also to champion the people who make them- so that we can bring great local food and the stories behind it, to the people who shop in our deli.

So whether you’re after a quick sandwich to take back to the office, or you’re hosting a dinner party – pop in and see us for some great local independent shopping.

(If you are fortunate enough to live in the LS7, LS8 and LS17 postcode districts you can take advantage of our online ordering service for the full range of items we stock in our Street Lane deli.)

Homemade goodies

We make fresh sandwiches, savouries, salads, soups and cakes in our kitchen daily. These are available both to takeaway or to eat in – in our café area. We cook with the seasons, so our range changes regularly – pop in or give us a call to see what we’re cooking at the moment.

Cheeses

We love cheese!

Over the years, we’ve honed our skill of keeping cheeses well. Cheese is not a static product – it continues to ripen, so storing it at just the right temperature and for just the right length of time, is crucial in ensuring the optimum flavour of the wedge that we hand cut and wrap for you.

We usually have up to 40 different cheeses in our counter at any given time, and probably double that at Christmas. We specialise in Yorkshire artisan cheeses, but also stock other specialist British and European favourites. If you want something in particular and don’t see it in our counter – please ask- we can get hold of most things and are happy to order in for you. We usually have cheese samples out for tasting, but if you see a cheese that you’re not familiar with, just shout – we’re very happy to cut and taste it with you and spread the cheesy love!

Breads

We are lucky enough to stock bread from two of Leeds’ best artisan bakeries.

We have a range of speciality bread and croissants from Dumouchel in Garforth- where Normandy born Thierry Dumouchel and his team of expert bakers produce artisan breads free from additives and preservatives. We bake off their boule, croissants and pain au chocolat, fresh every morning, together with walnut & raisin bread and cheese bread – which we also toast for breakfast and serve with Marmite.

We are a local pick up point for The Leeds Bread Co-operative– an artisan bakery based in Meanwood. They are passionate about slowly fermented breads and use organic flour and locally sourced ingredients. We are proud to sell their amazing sourdough (which makes the best toast ever), malthouse sourdough and rye bread throughout the week- and we also stock their very delicious focaccia with rosemary & sea salt at the weekend.

Chocolates & sweet treats

There are some amazing chocolatiers and sugar workers in Yorkshire, and we are fortunate to stock quite a few of their fabulous products. Amongst our most popular lines are:

Lauden Chocolate Selection. This is one of those rare examples, of a product tasting just as good as it looks. And we’re not the only ones who think that – they’ve won several Great Taste Awards as well as a fistful of awards from The Academy of Chocolate. Husband & wife team Sun & Stephen started making chocolates from a small flat in Leeds in 2007 and selling them at local farmer’s markets. We were their very first retailer, but they can now also be found in Fortnum & Mason and British Airways First Class.

Art of Mallow Gourmet Marshmallows. These hand crafted marshmallows are not like mallows you’ve tasted before.  Soft, billowy and delightfully flavoured, they’re made by Philippa who lives just down the road from us, in Oakwood. Since we first started selling her products in 2012, Philippa has gone from strength to strength, winning a Great Taste Award in 2013 and appearing on James Martin’s Cold Comforts. She uses only natural ingredients to create her gorgeous mallows in eight different flavours of pillowy perfection. Our best sellers are Chocolate with Chocolate Chip, and Raspberry.

Guppy’s Chocolate Shards. Handmade by husband and wife team, Peter and Fran Guppy in York, these simple little shards of top quality handmade chocolate are one of life’s little pleasures. Having spent years working in the financial services sector, the Guppy’s took the plunge in 2010, and gave up their day jobs to realise their dream of setting up a chocolate making business. Initially converting their garage to a mini chocolate workshop, they have since moved twice to larger premises, and are now based at Clifton Moor in York. Our top sellers are dark chocolate with peppermint, milk chocolate with sea salted caramel, milk chocolate with peanut butter and dark chocolate with raspberry.

Jams & chutneys

We stock a comprehensive range of jams and chutneys, including Tracklements- but true to our local heritage, we feature Yorkshire products from Raydale Preserves.

A row of stone cottages in the tiny village of Stalling Busk overlooking Semer Water, is the beautiful home of Raydale Preserves. Mum, dad and son, Andrew Kettlewell, hand make jams and chutneys in kettle batches using Yorkshire fruit from Sessay in North Yorkshire. Their fabulous products have won an armful of awards and for every jar sold, the Kettlewells donate a percentage of the proceeds to local conservation projects. So far they’ve rebuilt several thousand meters of dry stonewall and replanted thousands of trees in three woodland areas. We like that. Almost as much as we like their jams and chutneys! Our top sellers are Blackcurrant & Lavender Jam, Plum & Rosehip Jam, Tomato & Sweet Chilli Chutney and Fig & Honey Chutney

Tea & coffee

We sell locally roasted coffee, from the York Coffee Emporium. Laurence and the team have been hand roasting coffee since 2010 at their roastery in York. Their main speciality coffee buyers focus on building collaborative supply chains for mutual profit and positive social impact. They support and build some pretty cool programs like Girls Gotta Run in Ethiopia and IWCA which is expanding from Central & South America into places like Burundi in Africa. Their experienced team of passionate coffee roasters have now created a special Haley & Clifford blend just for us! You can sample it in our cafe, or buy bags of Haley & Clifford beans or ground coffee to brew at home

We sell tea from Taylors of Harrogate (well of course we do) and use their famous Yorkshire Tea in our café. Taylors of Harrogate is a fourth generation family business and as well as blending some of the best teas, in Britain, this great Yorkshire company also owns Betty’s Tearooms. If you’re wanting something a bit fancier than good old Yorkshire Tea, we also stock their Earl Grey, Afternoon Darjeeling, Peppermint Tea, Sweet Rhubarb & Ginger and quite a few more…. Pop in for a proper Yorkshire brew!
