April/May- The Sun Has Got His Hat On……
First of all, apologies for the lateness of the blog. I’ve got a long list of excuses, but quite frankly, I’ve had better things to do. The main culprit for this has been the sun. Give a Frenchman a bit of the yellow stuff and he’ll moan his cheese is melting. A German will put his beach towel on anything and demand it is his. The Americans will invariably watch HBO and eat burgers with the air con on. But the British, we get trollied on a Tuesday night because it’s 13 degrees and it’s not raining. All of a sudden people have migrated back from Netflix to the gardens (both back and beer) for impromptu BBQs and post work drinks. And I for one am proud to be partaking in this famous English pastime. In between all the booziness, you’ll be surprised to hear we’ve managed to get some work done.
Here at Haley & Clifford (where the sun is always shining) we’ve got all sorts of fabulous seasonal treats to make your picnic/BBQ/walk that much nicer. So for you lucky people this means Yorkshire rhubarb and yoghurt cake, lemon tart, British asparagus ( my personal favourite) in various forms, as well as broad beans, radishes and every kind of Yorkshire grown salad you can think of. Our take home meal will change weekly to keep in line with the ever changing weather whilst always focusing on local honest food as well as saving on your washing up!!
On top of this, we’ve recently received a new batch of Womersley vinegars with flavours ranging from strawberry and mint to lime black pepper and lavender. These were born and bred in Pontefract and are based on a second generation family recipe. Not only do they jazz up any salad but can be used in cakes, cocktails and marinades. They are a mainstay in the deli kitchen and a must-have in yours!!
Those of you with semi decent vision will have seen the transformation of the cafe and deli area and how the proverbial cat can now be swung. So hopefully, this means there’s more room for business breakfast, lunches with friends and cake with the kids with accompanying pushchairs!! Only a lucky few will have seen the sparkly new kitchen downstairs along with Val’s new google-esque office but I’m sure a smile and a wink and one of the team will give you the grand tour. And if I’m not there I’ll most probably be ill with sun stroke.
